2012 ” G ” Assemblage

VQA Beamsville Bench

IMPRESSIONS: On the nose, suggestions of spicy plum pudding and black licorice accented by cinnamon and cigar box. Sturdy tannins give this wine a brawny presence with flavours of black cherry, cooked dark fruits and an exotic smoky finish.

WINEMAKER NOTES: G is a blend of Merlot (35%), Cabernet Sauvignon (33%) and Cabernet Franc (32 %). This fruit was hand harvested on September 3rd and 19th from Rennie Estates’ Heron Pond Benchland Vineyard. Harvest Brix levels of this fruit averaged 21.7°. After a long slow natural drying period of 103 days, Brix levels reached 27.9°, at which point fermentation began. After fermentation was complete, the free-run juice was collected in French oak barrels, and allowed to age for twenty months. The resulting wine, at 16% alcohol and 11.4 g/L residual sugar, was bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.

Total Production: 85 cases
